Transitional Kayak—Beyond the Basics

Our intermediate programs are designed with one purpose—to help you achieve your own paddling goals. Intermediate development takes place in two ways: river trips and skills clinics.

River trips are the perfect opportunity to discover what a whitewater goldmine Ontario really is. Instruction focuses on refining your technique and introducing new moves and skills. Our instructors take the time to show you safe river running procedures and how to set up basic rescue systems. Ultimately we want you to have the confidence and expertise to be running these rivers yourself.

Skills clinics at the intermediate level are usually focused on playboating or technical paddling. Typically we use one or two waves/holes or a short section of whitewater to demonstrate, practice and improve skills and moves. Video is used to facilitate technique development.

Locations: River trips are chosen according to flow rates and technical difficulty and will vary month to month. Most of our programs run on the various sections of the Madawaska, the Petawawa or the Ottawa Rivers. From technical whitewater to big volume stuff—we organise trips for all adventure appetites.

Costs: $240.00 + GST + $5.00 membership (if you are not already a member). Equipment and boats are provided in addition to an excellent instructor. Course costs are reduced if you own your own boat and gear.

Dates: every weekend/week May to August

  • If you are interested in other dates, we book courses regularly for groups of two or more.

  • Many members prefer a combination course—a day of skills refinement and a day of river-running. Give us a call.
